In 1922 the success story of GREINER GmbH begins in a small workshop where headrests for hairdressing chairs are produced. To this day the family run company, which is based in the Swabian village Pleidelsheim, adheres to the values of the founder Mr. Walter Greiner and manufactures functional products with an appealing design and highest quality standard. In the meantime the third and fourth generation lead the company and could achieve being an established supplier of medical chairs, hairdressing chairs and automotive interior.
Walter Greiner Senior founds the company „GREINER Stahlmöbel“ and lays with it the cornerstone of today’s enterprise. The small mechanical garage is located in the former rooms of a brewery. At the beginning metal parts for hairdressing chairs and metal frames for the furniture industry are produced. Soon the mechanic manages to make a name for himself as regional high-quality supplier.
In 1929, one year before the great world economic crisis, business went already badly. In spite of the weak demand, the company could manage to sell their products through specialist wholesalers in the former German Reich territory, thanks to the high quality of their products. Although industrial production strongly decreases during the economic crisis, the company grows moderately. First export orders from Sweden and The Netherlands are executed.
Because of the war armament, raw materials are short. As a consequence the production of own goods is limited. In order to save jobs the manufacturing is supplemented by wage work.
Remainders of war material are used to manufacture all kinds of objects made of steel such as fruit bowls, coasters for wine bottles, holders for stamps or holy water basins. Also the last remnant of steel is converted to belt buckles and pendants.
Regular business life slowly develops and GREINER starts producing entire tubular steel frames for hairdressing chairs.
In 1960 GREINER achieves for the first time an annual turnover of 1 million D-mark. The development and manufacturing of own hairdressing chairs starts in the same year. Already in 1962 the company presents its first hairdressing chair with hydraulic pump. The chair convinces by a modern design and well-thought-out handling and gains therefore great market success.
The furniture and hairdressing industry suffers a crisis as the home furnishing trend decreases. GREINER recognizes niche opportunities for quality suppliers and adds an upholstery to its manufacturing process.
GREINER takes over the hairdressing chair range of company Röder Söhne. Almost right on the time of the 50 foundation anniversary, the classic barber chair “Modell 903” celebrates its triumphant run in the coiffeur area. It is still a nearly unchanged victim and living old-timer amongst barber chairs of this time period. Even today it experiences a special appreciation from our clients. At that time this model characterized the style of an entire era of hairdressing and barber salons – today it is still a much asked for classic. In the same year the first medical chairs are produced. Due to the high quality and production depth these chairs convince hospitals and doctor’s practices straightaway.
An expansion throughout Europe requires bigger premises for administration and production.
The company keeps on growing strongly and reaches again capacity limits. Therefore a new property in Pleidelsheim is bought.
GREINER GmbH takes over company Scheel-Mann Sitze GmbH located in Heimerdingen and expands its product range by seats for the automotive and utility vehicle sector. The brand name, as well as new expertise in the development of vehicle seats can be secured. We are one of very few companies in Germany which cover the full vertical process of a car seat – from the initial engineering to the final product. Subsequently the manufacturing plant and administration building must be enlarged as the production of car seats is also dislocated to Pleidelsheim.
GREINER GmbH implements a process-oriented Quality Management System according to DIN EN ISO 9001 (later on DIN EN ISO 185), which clearly describes and regulates all business processes by means of process descriptions and work instructions. Most progressive methods of a quality management and a failure-free operation build an appropriate framework to ensure quality and to establish reliable relationships with our customers. Furthermore the company engages to act conservatively and efficiently with natural resources.
In 2000 GREINER took over company Nubert and enlarged our company with shampoo chairs for the hairdressing section. Thus GREINER GmbH meets the high demands of salon owners regarding a timeless and modern design of furniture.
The first own massage system for shampoo chairs is completed. As there is a high demand for manicure and pedicure chairs which go well with the salon interior, GREINER develops the “cosmolore SPA” chair which is since then deliverable.
The first shampoo and wellness couch is introduced onto the market. Customers can be shampooed in a sitting or lying position, just as they wish. For ergonomic reasons the hairdresser can adjust the working height electrically.
In April 2016 the company moves to a bigger building in Pleidelsheim. Visitors and interested customers can experience the brand GREINER in our exhibition area of 350 m². Even in the same year as the firm’s relocation, GREINER GmbH introduces with the MULTILINE NEXT DC, MULTILINE NEXT IT and MULTILINE NEXT AC a new generation of chairs in the market, which sets new standards in the matter of technique, design, technology. Therefore, the company meets actively the increased challenges after a longer period of development time, which result in infusion therapy, ambulant surgery and dialysis treatment.
100 YEARS OF GREINER!
